Configure Magento outbound SMTP
SMTP Email Delivery 1.0.4 sends outbound messages through a merchant-configured SMTP service when enabled. It wraps Magento's mail transport factory and uses Symfony Mailer. Choose from 19 provider presets or enter a custom host and port. You supply the provider account, approved sender, credentials and relevant DNS records. External SMTP providers may charge separately for accounts or message volume.
Connection and authentication
- Choose SSL, required STARTTLS or no encryption. STARTTLS mode rejects servers that do not negotiate TLS before credentials or message data are sent.
- Choose no authentication, LOGIN, PLAIN, CRAM-MD5 or XOAUTH2; the selected method is enforced. Google and Microsoft OAuth 2.0 require your own provider application credentials and refresh token. Saved secrets use Magento's encrypted configuration backend.
- Optionally override the sender, add a plain-text alternative or global CC/BCC, and set an SMTP Return-Path envelope sender. Your provider must permit the chosen addresses.
Test, log and staging
The Admin Send Test Email button sends a real message to your chosen recipient. It can use typed password credentials before they are saved; OAuth credentials must be saved first. Optional logging records application send status, subject, recipients and a body representation. Admin users with log access can preview a message in an isolated frame and resend a text-only reconstruction. Resends do not recreate original HTML, attachments, CC/BCC or exact MIME structure. Set log retention and Admin permissions for personal data.
Disable Actual Delivery blocks ordinary messages unless every To, CC and BCC address, including global CC/BCC, is allowlisted. Mixed-recipient messages are blocked as a whole. Admin resends are blocked in this mode. The explicit Send Test Email action still sends a real message.
Version 1.0.3 and compatibility
The exact 1.0.3 ZIP was installed through Composer, upgraded and DI compiled on Magento Open Source 2.4.9 / PHP 8.5.10. Magento coding checks and transport policy regression tests passed for 1.0.3. The local SMTP send, envelope Return-Path, staging-recipient suppression, STARTTLS downgrade rejection and Luma page checks were completed for 1.0.2; 1.0.3 changes only the class extensibility modifier, package version and installation example. Qualify other editions, versions, providers, OAuth flows, mail templates and inbox placement in staging. An application send success does not guarantee inbox delivery.
