LLMs.txt for Magento: what the proposed files do and what they do not promise

An optional public export, with no citation promise

LLMs.txt is a proposed convention for presenting site information to tools that choose to read it. It is not robots.txt access control, an authentication mechanism or a Google requirement. Publishing the file does not establish that ChatGPT, Bing, Perplexity or another service will fetch, use or cite your store.

AgenticEcom's LLMs.txt Generator offers a short summary, a fuller Markdown export and an optional product JSON endpoint. Its value is maintaining a deliberate public representation of selected store information. Decide which consumer actually needs that representation before treating it as another essential SEO installation.

Keep the three jobs separate

MechanismPurposeLimit
robots.txtCommunicate crawler fetch rules. It is not authentication for private information.
XML sitemapProvide URLs for search discovery. It does not guarantee indexing.
llms.txt and related exportsOffer a curated summary or readable data to willing consumers.Adoption and use depend on the consumer.

Readable public pages, working internal links and appropriate indexing controls remain the foundation. A small curated file can be maintained manually. Automation becomes more useful when the approved export changes often enough that manual updates are unreliable.

Know which file refreshes when

The current public module release is 1.0.10. The guide describes /llms.txt as generated on request, /llms-full.txt as cached per store view with a six-hour lifetime and a six-hour cron refresh, and optional /llms-products.json as source-generated with a public one-hour cache header. JSON is disabled by default. A saved Magento product does not establish that a cached export or downstream copy has changed.

Inspect freshness and exposure together

Illustrative acceptance exercise, not a performed endpoint test: choose a public product in an English store view and a different approved description in a second locale. Record the expected name, URL and selected public attributes. Change one harmless description on staging, then compare the short, full and enabled JSON outputs through their cache cycle. Record the response time and cache headers rather than assuming identical freshness.

  1. Keep the JSON endpoint off until you have a reason to expose it and have reviewed its fields.
  2. Check enabled sections and deep-attribute settings. Inspect actual output for costs, internal notes, private identifiers or customer-specific information.
  3. Confirm public storefront links and store-view boundaries. On headless stores, check the configured frontend domain.
  4. Check exclusion of a disabled product, a hidden product and unpublished content in the exact build.
  5. Verify that updates and removals propagate through the full-file cache and any CDN. Maintain a procedure for time-sensitive corrections.

The documented filters are useful safeguards, but the right publication decision still depends on your custom attributes and integrations. Do not use a crawler directive or an export toggle as the protection for genuinely confidential data.

What this means for AI-search work

Google's AI-search guidance says ordinary search foundations apply and no special AI text file or schema is required. This is guidance for Google's own features; it is not proof of every other assistant's behaviour. Measure a real citation separately from a fetched file, a search impression, a visit or a sale.

The offer lists Magento Open Source 2.4.9 and Luma compatibility. Check exact package and PHP requirements before installation; this article has not run the endpoint exercise. The available setup video is recorded on 1.0.9. Read the LLMs.txt Generator product, endpoint and configuration guide and HTML versus XML sitemap checklist to choose the appropriate discovery tool.
