Editing an Astro Store: Theme, Layout and Magento Content

Editing an Astro Store: Theme, Layout and Magento Content

• 4 min read • 2 views

Start an edit by identifying what you are changing. Brand colours and fonts, page arrangement, product facts and navigation belong to different layers. AgenticEcom combines Astro Admin design controls with Magento-managed commerce and content. Choosing the right layer makes the result easier to maintain and prevents a visual workaround from hiding an underlying data problem.

The visual controls cover supported settings and blocks. A new integration, unsupported behaviour or a new component can still require development and deployment. “Editable” is not a promise that every possible storefront change is available without code.

Match the task to the layer

Use the editor without losing the data connection

The page editor arranges supported blocks. A product-price block should display the relevant commerce data; a copied text label containing a price cannot replace that connection. Likewise, removing the add-to-cart or quote control may make a page look cleaner while preventing the customer from completing the task.

Save a recoverable draft before changing a working layout. The documented save model distinguishes a draft, a saved custom preset and activation of that preset for a page type. Follow the current editor guide, then use the prebuild/cache workflow required by the deployment. A saved draft is not evidence that shoppers see the change.

Keep editorial ownership clear

CMS Sync Bundle supplies CMS blocks and pages for the frontend. It moves content data; it does not convert every Magento widget into a supported Astro component. Preview rich content, media directives, embedded links and sanitised output before assuming the rendered result matches the original editor.

NavBridge Pro exposes navigation settings such as menu structure and promotional CMS references. The frontend still has to render those settings. A category-data change and a layout change may require different refresh steps. Assign a source of truth for each item so the team does not maintain conflicting versions in Magento and a hard-coded page.

Illustrative campaign handover

This example is illustrative and unexecuted. A tool supplier wants a seasonal category promotion. The content owner updates a Magento CMS block with approved copy and a useful category link. The designer selects an existing supported hero variant and checks the layout at mobile width. The operator refreshes the relevant content, activates the reviewed layout and completes the required prebuild/cache steps. A second reader opens the public page, follows the link and confirms the category has the intended products.

If the campaign also changes product prices, that is a separate commerce task. Keep those values in Magento and verify the product, cart and checkout amounts. Do not bake a temporary price into an illustration or headline and assume it will stay aligned.

When the native route is enough

If the job is simply to correct a specification or information page, changing the Magento record may be all the editorial work needed, followed by refresh and verification. A complete frontend redesign is unnecessary. If your current Magento theme already supports the required editorial workflow, compare that option before taking on a separate frontend application.

Handover questions

  • Which controls can the content team use safely, and who handles a new block or behaviour?
  • Where is the authoritative content, including store-view translations?
  • What must be saved, activated, synced or prebuilt before it is public?
  • Who reviews keyboard access, contrast, mobile reading and purchase controls?
  • How does the team restore the previous layout if the change is wrong?

The Astro Admin guides include recordings dated 14 October 2026 for the editor, theme, sync and prebuild tasks. Use those as documented walkthroughs, checking them against your delivered interface. They are not a claim of fresh playback testing or proof that every edit is instant.
